Gotta love the politicians

The NC Education Lottery is underperforming on anticipated sales for it's 1st year . The lottery figured to bring in 1.2 billion but it appears it will come in under 1 billion . The lottery bill passed by a razors edge in the NC legislature with the biggest selling point being money for education . Now Gov. Sleazly ( I mean Easley) has puposed to decrease the proceeds that go to education from the current 35 % to 29 % in order to have more prizes to get more people to buy tickets . What a load of poo ! Millions per week to win is plenty of incentive to buy tickets as it is in my opinion . Greed and greed alone is the reason . Poltician class 101 , get the lottery passed and in place then later on we can take away from the one thing that got the bill passed to begin with . I was not really passionate about the lottery one way or another but this is just another example of the dark side of our politicians .

Under Easley's leadership, 81 percent of North Carolina's students are performing at or above grade level on ABC tests while fourth graders are among the top in the nation in reading, writing and math scores on the National Assessment Exams.

Easley also launched an effort to reform the state's high schools. Through Learn and Earn, students now have the chance to complete an associate's degree in conjunction with their high school curriculum and ensure that they are better prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation. Easley also created the nation's first Center for 21st Century Skills to redesign high school curriculum to meet the demands of the global economy.

To generate funds for future investments in education, Easley secured the passage of an education lottery in 2005. The lottery will generate more than $400 million annually for pre-kindergarten programs and class size reduction, school construction and need-based scholarships.
